Objective

FKA defines three types of objectives:

  • Performance Objective – describes the required performance on the job
  • Training Objective – what learners will be able to do at the end of a training module
  • Learning Objective – what learners will be able to do at the end of a lesson
Observation

A data collection method. An observer watches someone’s performance and compares it to a performance checklist. The performance checklist is based on the Model of Performance.

Online Help

Reference information delivered through computer software. Most online Help is designed to explain how to use a software application or operating system, but can also be used to present information on a broad range of subjects

Online Learning

Any learning experience or environment that relies upon the Internet as the primary delivery mode. A synonym for e-learning.

On-the-Job Training (OJT)

One of the instructional strategies where a designated on-the-job training supervisor, mentor or coach coordinates the training of the learner. Training consists of performing the job under supervision rather than in a formal, classroom setting. On-the-job training can be developed to include a series of structured activities with participant and supervisor materials to support the training.

Open-Ended Question

Allows learners to respond in their own words, e.g., “What did you have for breakfast today?”

Outcome

What the learners will be able to do at the end of a module or lesson.

Overhead Question

One way to target a question. The instructor/facilitator asks the whole group the question. The opposite is a direct question.

Overprompting

A weak instructional item which uses excessive hints, cues or prompts in assisting the learner to perform as desired.
